Joe Jackson covered this on his Jumpin Jive album and it smoked. Unfortunately, he gets credit for writing it which is clearly false! He may have added a word or two ( or not) but as per usual, the black artists don’t get credit they deserve or the royalties. My dad (1910 - 1981) grew up in NYC and knew Cab Calloway & did not like him a bit. Called him Uncle Tom. Pops could be harsh. For myself I’ve always felt that Cab got screwed like SO many others. Check out the movie, Stormy Weather and you’ll see what I mean. They wouldn’t have been the Beatles, Allman Brothers, or Elvis without the true giants who came before. Also, Louis Jordan is THE cat who made it all happen!

That was one of my favorite movies in 98', and I watched at least 20 times, and it's still good.

I guess that a lot of people don t understand this movie or they pretend they don t , maybe they are puritans scandalized by some naked men? I think that they criticize the means so as not to see the meaning! the film shows the naked and raw reality without Hollywoodian sweeteners. In my opinion this is a masterpiece!
